PostHeaderIcon how much whey protein powder should I have after my workout?

I weigh 230lbs, and am starting to take some whey protein drink to help built muscles and lose weight. How much should I consume daily?

Most people in the fitness community will tell you to consume between 1/2 to 1 gram of protein for each pound of lean body mass (your weight minus your fat) per day. I average about 3/4 and I train almost daily. If you’re body building (and it doesn’t sound like you are), some people take as much as 2g/lb per day.

For an after-workout shake, I’d recommend 25–40 grams. I usually take about 30 grams. My lean body mass is about 150 lbs.

By the way, I recommend you check out the Zone Diet, which I have found to be very effective at building muscle and losing fat when coupled with regular exercise.

breakfast shake– banana and 1 1/2 scoops in Rice Dream…..another with lunch, and some casein powder before bed….also get a good dose of complex carbs (fruits and veggies) and fish chicken and steak……natural peanut butter is good in the shake too.

I would recommend 30-35 grams of quality whey protein post workout. As far as daily intake, shoot for one gram per pound of body weight. Also, make sure you are using a high quality whey protein minus the fillers and additives.

Sounds like you just need to kick start your metabolism. Try eating five or six times a day rather than two or three. But make the meals much smaller and make sure they are healthy. Or you could just try cutting down your portions and eating more fruits and veggies. There are also several different supplements that can assist you with weight loss. This site lists a couple that actually worked. http://iceipho.notlong.com
