When should I take whey protein?
Firstly, I want to state that I’m not a body builder, nor do I want to be one. All I want to do is gain lean muscle a little quicker and maybe gain a little weight. I read on some sites that you should take whey protein 3 times a day. When you wake up, before exercise and after exercise. But I think that’s just for serious body builders.
When would be the best time for me to take it, and how often should I take it?
Always consume a pre and post workout shake.

Before bed would be best.
Person below: There is no such thing as "lean muscle". More accurately, all muscle is lean. Either you grow it (hypertrophy) with ever increasing resistance exercise, or you do not.

drink one for breakfest. one after your workout which is the most important. and one before bed so your body dosent feed on your muscles.

rite after you work out. Take it once a day.
If you want lean muscle stick to highers rep + less weight (x3 sets) as opposed to higher weight + less reps (x3-4 sets).
Also do a little cardio before or after you lift.
(if you follow the 3X per day you’re back at the store buying more sooner (thats what they want) – you don’t need that much protein, as you just end up pissing most of it out)

Within 30 minutes of exercising to build muscles. You can also have one for breakfast and one for dinner like everyone else is saying.
