I take mine 30 minutes after i workout which is the only time u really need it. U could take it for protein other times a day but whole foods are better.

No don’t take it before bed it goes through ur system way to fast. If u want to take protein before bed than take casein protein which takes much longer to digest.

Whey protein does nothing more than a can of tuna, its just food. Popular body building knowledge will suggest 1 gram of protein per pound that you weigh, split between 5 meals or 6. so for you that’s about 25-30g. Whey protein is mostly about convience, but if you were to only take it once a day i would say right after you workout because your body is starving for quality protein. if you gonna take it 3 times a day id suggest adding in the morning and before bed. whole grain carbs are prob most important before your work out

1.0-1.5g of protein per body weight so 155-233g of protein all divided into 5 small meals throughout the day. Whey should be taken after your workout and 30min before bed to feed the body through your sleep to keep it in anabolic state, the state where muscles grow. People take it in the morning to help bring the body out of the catabolic state where muscles are eaten away for energy but you can eat some egg whites and oatmeal if you like.

This depends on your goal. Just working out 2-3 times per week, you want to make sure that you have the following:

    – A complete protein source within 2 hours of your workout, this can be your regular meal and not a supplement
    – Complex carbs ~30 minutes pre-workout
    – whey protein and fast burning carbs post-workout (~25g)

The protein before bed is to prevent your body from going into a catabolic state. if you are going to have a protein shake before bed, make sure that you…

    – use either a casein or complex protein (~40g)
    – do not injest fats or carbs with this shake
    – take right before going to bed

The casein protein is a slow burning protein that will take ~7hrs to process. This will keep your body fueled throughout the night when your growth hormone level skyrocket to repair your muscles.

Hard gainers will supplement with protein powders more often than outlined above, but you have to have your diet and training regime setup for extreme muscle building. This is much more than going to the gym 2-3 days/ week to stay in shape.

    Good Luck!!

I was able to go from 135 lbs to 175 lbs in one summer. I ate like a horse, made sure I ate at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, and I used Mike Mentzer High Intensity training routines (AKA heavy duty).

Here is a youtube clip of one of the routines. clip is kinda boring, but gets the point across

Now here is my whey protein schedule

Right out of bed 50 gram shake/smoothie
Immediately after workout 50 gram shake/smoothie
Right before bed 50 gram shake/smoothie

Then sometimes if I wake up in the middle of the night, I will go to the kitchen and have another 50 gram shake/smoothie.

This blows up recovery and puts the mass on quick!
