When purchasing any weight loss product, it is important to do your research. Many people are exchanging their opinions about Calotren on DietBlogTalk.com

For an additional source, check out Calotren on the very popular Sensational.com

Overview

Calotren™ is a protein supplement designed to eliminate the need for stimulants by focusing on nutrition. Protein is a necessary nutrient for a normal functioning body. High protein diets are often linked to weight loss because of its ability to burn quickly as energy as opposed to being stored as fat. Calotren™ claims to be an all natural weight loss supplement that doesn’t contain stimulants, appetite suppressants, and causes no side effects. The makers of this product claim that it allegedly sustains muscle mass, supports joint strength, provides energy, and facilitates weight loss. Interestingly, according to the makers of Calotren™, most people who experience energy from this product are underweight or active.

Ingredients at a Glance

According to the manufacturer of Calotren™ the main ingredient is their protein formula, otherwise known as Collagen, Oxygenated Water, Aloe Vera, Glycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Natural Raspberry Flavoring, and Methyl Paraben.

Ingredients in Focus

Collagen is a protein that has often been linked to cosmetic benefits. Recently, the diet industry has argued that it has powerful weight loss potential, though this is not a proven fact. In addition, it may preserve lean muscle mass and provide energy. More successful and better known protein supplementing, however, has been linked to the use of other types of protein. Soy protein has been linked to weight loss. Whey protein has been linked to muscle development and weight loss. Aloe Vera has been linked to good skin health. While this is not a skin treatment formula the idea is that smooth and toned skin should accompany weight loss. The other ingredients—Glycerin, Oxygenated Water, Glycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Natural Raspberry Flavoring, and Methyl Paraben—are for flavoring, texture, and taste.

Positives

• There are no stimulants in Calotren™.

Negatives

• Collagen is unproven as a weight loss supplement.
• This product must be taken on an empty stomach; no food must be consumed within three hours of taking this product.
• Calotren™ costs about $75 per 30 day supply.

Final Thoughts

The makers of Calotren™ have tried to create an effective weight loss supplement without stimulants. Several success stories from individuals using their product have been provided. They also indicate that their product is not intended to replace diet and exercise, but exercise and diet will enhance the effectiveness of the product. However, there is still no clinical evidence that Collagen is an effective weight loss supplement. Collagen use has proved successful in other areas such as beauty and cosmetics, but as far as weight loss, the necessary properties to facilitate weight loss are just not there. Look instead for a supplement that uses ingredients to burn fat and control the appetite and you’ll be much further ahead.

Muscle Milk Review

Let’s face it, Muscle milk is probably the most popular protein on the market today. When you see a product on shelves at a convenient store you know it has hit the big time. Not only is it there but it’s usually the only brand carried. So in this review we will take a look at what makes Muscle Milk so popular and if it’s all show and no go.

I remember when this product came out about 7 years ago. At the time it was nowhere near as popular as it is today but I still tried it. Having great experiences with Cytosport products over the years, I knew they never put out anything but top notch supplements. I recall how amazing Muscle milk tasted and wondering if this stuff could even be healthy. It’s that good! For those of you that have never used this stuff but have used regular whey protein , you can forget that chalky taste you have become accustomed to. There is none of that here. As I did some research on the product I found out why the chalky taste was absent and about Medium Chain Triglycerides ( MCT’s ). Get ready to do some learning!

Medium Chain Triglycerides

If you have ever tried muscle milk you will notice on the label that Cytosport touts Lean Lipids in this product. When you read this they mean MCT’s. What are they and why are they so important to your training and nutrition schedule? MCT’s are a unique fat that hold numerous benefits for the fitness enthusiast. First and foremost they have 10% fewer calories vs. other fats. 8.3 calories vs. 9.0 calories to be exact and their construction at the molecular level is shorter. Regular fats are known as Long Chains , so you can see where the term Medium Chain starts to make sense. The major benefit to you is that MCT’s are absorbed faster into the body and burn quicker vs. Long Chains. They’re so efficient that they are not likely to be stored as fat at all! This is of major importance as you are trying to gain muscle and lose those inches! Think of it this way, you get the calorie density of a fat with the quick burn of a carbohydrate. You may hear from time to time that someone doesn’t like Muscle Milk because of the fat content. Well, now you know more than they do!

Protein Blending

Muscle Milk contains a blend of whey and casein proteins. What are they and what do they do? By now you have probably been inundated with all the information you will ever need about whey proteins. Casein may be new to you. Have you ever noticed when someone goes on a diet they usually eat cottage cheese? Well, cottage cheese is naturally high in casein protein. Casein forms a glob in your stomach and takes a good bit of time to break down. This is why dieters like cottage cheese, it makes them feel satiated for a while. Ideally, Muscle milk should be used as a meal replacement protein or at bedtime since it is a blend of fast acting whey and casein. You would probably want to choose a straight whey for post exercise since it is absorbed into the body much faster.

Overall impressions

If you are looking for a great tasting meal replacement or night time protein Muscle milk is a sure bet. This is a high quality product with some serious science behind it. The folks at Cytosport have never introduced an inferior product. This also a great product if you hate the chalky taste usually associated with other protein powders. It is available in powder, packet and ready to drink forms so pick some up and enjoy!

Weight training and nutrition are without a doubt the two mandatory components of developing a healthy muscular physique. If you’re unable to give the utmost attention to both components, you may as well quit wasting your time and bid adios to your muscle gains. Now when it comes to the subject of nutrition for muscle mass development, I believe that many people are aware of the basics like consuming adequate amount of calories, eat plenty of rich protein foods, proper consumption of low glycemic carbohydrates and healthy fats among other things. That being said, I find that the vast majority of people are unaware of 2 absolutely essential periods for feeding the body with muscle building meals or supplements. These 2 periods must be capitalized by anyone who is interested in boosting their muscle mass development to greater heights in a relatively short period of time.

1. Post-Workout Nutrition – Fuelling your body with muscle gaining nutrients is a must especially after an intense iron blasting workout. I used to play down this highly important timeframe back when I first started lifting weights, and boy, did I sold myself short! A highly intense weight training session will most definitely put your body in a state of extreme stress and this elevates your muscles ability to absorb much more nutrients than usual.

What should one consume during post-workout? Well, a serving or two of rapid absorbing protein source such as whey (mixed in plain water) would be best, along with a serving of simple sugar like corn sugar. Whey is commonly known as the king of protein due to its vast amount of BCAA (Branched chain amino acids), an extremely critical component for increasing mass, and further more, this protein source can be quickly absorbed by your muscles thus increasing the rate of protein synthesis within the body.

As for simple sugar, they are required in order to trigger a massive insulin-spike in your body. Is insulin spike necessary in connection to muscle growth? You bet it is! By increasing your insulin rapidly, every ounce of whey protein that you’ve consumed will be pushed right into your muscle cells at an extremely quick rate, resulting in faster and better gains.

2. Pre-Bedtime Nutrition – The cardinal rule of bodybuilding is that your body must be continually fed with muscle building nutrients every 3 to 4 hours. Failure to do so will greatly decrease your chances of increasing muscular size and strength, and this is an outright fact.

So how are you going to feed your body with the necessary nutrients every few hours when you’re going to wound up sleeping for 8 hours straight by the end the day? Well, here’s where pre-bedtime comes into the picture. In order to minimize muscle breakdown during sleep, it is imperative that you prepped your body with slow-release meals that are loaded with essential nutrients for repairing and rebuilding muscle tissues before calling it a night.

Milk and cottage cheese are two excellent slow-released muscle building foods. If you have the budget, get a tub of high quality whey protein. Although very fast acting, you can actually turn whey into a time-released protein by combining it together with a glass of milk. Don’t go overboard when preparing a pre-bedtime meal, otherwise you might have trouble sleeping and may end gaining additional bodyfat as well. A glass of milk mixed with whey along with a small bowl of oatmeal, or a piece of whole wheat toast will set you on the right path to a fast muscle development even when you’re fast asleep!

Ok, I am 20yrs old, about 5′6 155 pounds and I am looking to gain maybe ten more pounds, but lean muscle with bigger arms, chest and a six pack. My question is which should i use while doing p90x, 100% whey protein or cyto sport muscle milk?

Note: trying to get lean, not huge

P90X is an athletic program more then a body building program. Because of this, a better choice would be a protein blend, such as CytoSport muscle milk. Fyi: the P90X recovery drink is also a protein blend, It’s just very much over-priced for what it is. it’s no more "magical" then any others.

Do you "need" it? Absolutely not – but it does help provide a fast absorbing nutritional "supplement" to your workouts and re-fuel glycogen stores. Supplement means, "in addition to REAL food". Shakes are not meal replacements.
Be sure to follow the nutrition program of P90x. The combined program (workout + nutrition) works. One without the other – does not!

Besides the price, whats the difference between the Body Fortress whey protein found in walmart and the Optimum Nutrition whey protein gold?
..The Body Fortress is cheaper plus it has more protein and BCAAs per scoop…

Is the Optimum whey worth the extra cost?

I"m 6 foot about 150 pounds, just trying to bulk up and gain some muscle mass.

Really they are both intended mainly to just get you some extra protein, neither will give you more muscle unless of course you get the great work out in it. They both work the same, the difference is their servings per container and the calories. I go for the one which has more protein, to do this just multiply the servings by the protein (grams) and you get which has more protein. Gold standard is always more expensive, that’s because of the name they built for them self. If you work hard you’ll be just fine with whatever you chose.
